Jonathan Nixon opened Bespoke Eyewear in 2010, drawn to a beautiful, empty space on Royal Parade: a Grade II listed former Edwardian chemist's shop, complete with the kind of antique cabinets most retailers would strip out. He kept them, and reimagined them as a showcase for the eyewear he wanted to sell, curated designer frames chosen for how they change the way a face reads, not just what prescription sits inside the lens.
For its first seven years, the boutique focused purely on that curated frame collection. In 2017, the practice expanded to include professional eye examinations, meaning the same team that helps you choose a frame can now test the eyes going behind it. That combination, style consultation and clinical eye care under one roof, is still relatively rare among independent opticians.
The collection has grown into a genuinely international roster of names, and a loyal customer base who, by the practice's own account, have become something like word-of-mouth ambassadors for the shop. It remains a single site, not a chain, run with the same eye for detail Nixon brought to that first empty room.

A curated roster of designer eyewear brands, not a mass-market catalogue.
Style Consultation
Choosing frames here isn't a five-minute pick off a wall rack. The team works through what actually suits your face shape and the way you dress, drawing on a collection specifically curated to include pieces most opticians never stock. It's the part of the business Bespoke Eyewear started with, and still the part it's best known for.
Professional Eye Tests
Since 2017, full eye examinations have been available on-site, meaning there's no need to visit a separate optician before choosing frames here. Contact lens fittings are also part of the service, so the whole journey from prescription to finished glasses happens under one roof, in the same considered surroundings.
